The Recents: 18 September 2015

How about another round of The Recents?

TV/Movies:  This summer, I finally broke down and reactivated my Netflix account for the family.  I kept putting it off because I knew all we would do once it was active was watch TV.  Was I wrong?  Nope.

Books:  The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the newest in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.  It has a new author, as the last one passed away, and I’m not sure how I feel about this one.  I am also reading We Were Liars, which is interesting in its style.  It jumps back and forth like an ADD brain.  Normally, I find that frustrating, but the story is intriguing.

Music: anything on the new Sleeping with Sirens album and “Vicious Love” by New Found Glory featuring Hayley Williams.

Topics of Interest:  the refugee/migrant flood entering Europe.  I must admit, I have stopped paying attention to a lot of news.  Sometimes, it is so depressing to read about all the horrible things in the world.  However, I am following this story.  It directly affects us, as we live in Germany, and many of these people are planning to settle here.  While the challenges of intaking, housing, and assimilating these people seems insurmountable, I know that there is a genuine need for some of them.  Note that I said some, not all.  I also worry about the chances of ISIS or other dangerous people using this time to flood Europe with insurgents and terrorism.  Europe, Germany in particular, is in quite a pickle:  do you turn away these people and live with that choice, or do you embrace them and suffer the unintended consequences?

Goals for the week:  clean my house!  Never underestimate the importance of rest – at the end of the day, if I have to choose between cleaning my house and relaxing with family, I choose the family every time.  However, the house needs a good scrub and sweep.  I would also like to get my house ready for the company we have coming in less than a week!  So exciting!  Finally, I have some work goals that I would really like to accomplish.  This week was a blah week.  Work was busy but also not busy.  That sounds ridiculous, but if you were here, it would make sense. So much to do, constantly, but also nothing very pressing.

My husband is home, a week is coming to an end, and I am exhausted.  Good night all!
